Fresh off its world premiere on Sept. 20th in Schenectady (NY), I am very excited to announce that my piece Epiclesis (2017), composed for trumpet, trombone, and harp, has been selected to be performed at the 44th Annual International Trumpet Guild Conference in July 2019 in Miami.
The piece was selected by the ITG’s New Works Recital committee, and will appear on one of two New Works Recitals at the conference. The pieces featured in these recitals were selected from among over 50 submissions from composers and/or trumpet players all over the United States and beyond. I am honored to have Epiclesis performed at this event, which annually brings together professional and student trumpeters to enjoy concerts, recitals, master classes, competitions, vendor exhibits and more.
Epiclesis will be performed by Phillip Chase Hawkins, Principal Trumpet of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Knoxville (TN). Chase is something of a champion of new music himself, having been involved in four commissions from composers in recent years. The accomplished Miami trombonist and educator Jessica Hawthorne, who has played with several orchestras and ensembles in the Miami area and serves as an adjunct faculty at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, will be performing the trombone part. South Florida harpist Kristina Finch, who serves as Principal Harp with the Miami Symphony Orchestra and Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, in addition to being a guest artist with many other fine musical groups, completes the ensemble. Kristina is also known for her "big sound" at the harp, which is ideal when performing with two brass players! All three performers are alumni of the Eastman School of Music.
Special thanks to Jason Dovel and Marisa Youngs of ITG’s New Works Recital Committee as they continue to put this all together. Thanks also to all of you out there for your continued support for new music and composers like myself, and to all of you who were able to attend the premiere of this piece in Schenectady. And, of course, my deepest gratitude to Allyson Keyser, Phil Pandori, and Karlinda Caldicott for their fantastic performance at the premiere in September.
Thank you to the International Trumpet Guild for its steadfast interest in and support of new music for the trumpet!
