About All Will Be Well

All Will Be Well (2022) was composed out of a desire to write a piece that would be of some comfort during a time of unrest and uncertainty.  In looking for a suitable text, I turned to the female mystics of the Church, and found the perfect balance of reassurance and challenge in this famous statement by St. Julian of Norwich: "All will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well."  This challenging musical setting for divisi chorus is meant to reflect both the text's deeply felt faith and trust, as well as St. Julian's mystical understanding of the Divine.  The music explores color through the use of harmony and choral "orchestration" techniques.

As this piece has never been performed, below is a MIDI rendering.  Please bear in mind as you listen, that the choral samples used are, simply, an "ah" syllable (the text of the piece is not discernible in the recording), and that many of the tempo changes and other transitions would be better handled by a skilled conductor than computer software.  If you click on the above cover image, you will see a sample of the score.
