About Confirm, O God:

Confirm, O God (2014) is a setting of the antiphon for the Rite of Confirmation.  The text of the Antiphon is an English translation of the Confirma hoc, Deus, the Latin chant associated with this rite, and the verses are taken from Psalm 68.  This piece works well as an accompaniment to the anointing with Sacred Chrism during the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation, and has a refrain that is easily learned by the Assembly.  As many Confirmation celebrations take place during the Easter season, the refrain also ends with the double Alleluia often associated with antiphons sung during this season.  For this reason, the Refrain can also be useful as an acclamation following the Confirmation of adults at the Easter Vigil.  The verses are composed to be sung by Cantor and Choir in alternation, but may be sung through by a single Cantor, or by two Cantors in alternation, with one taking the place of the Choir.  The accompaniment is suitable to either organ or piano.
