About Search
Search (1999) is essentially my first Brass Quintet. It was composed while I was still a student at the Crane School of Music, but I still think it holds up pretty well against many of my more "mature" pieces. It begins with the use of a melody built on a synthetic scale that I have since used in other compositions. The second movement is a brief, slow "interlude", built on a melody that was contrived from an unusual series of pitches. The third movement is a fairly straightforward Theme and Variations. Movement four serves as a kind of "development" on the ideas of the movements that precede it, something I have done in later works, as well, (i.e. Quintet for Winds (2015)).
