About Shine Your Light, O Lord:

Shine Your Light, O Lord (2017) was composed as a Lenten hymn, drawing upon the virtuous works highlighted by Jesus during his description of the "final judgement" in Matthew 25 as a focus for Lenten renewal.  It has been used to great effect both as a Recessional Hymn at Mass and as a hymn during solemn Evening Prayer celebrations during Lent.  Its structure as a simple hymn tune with four verses makes for easy learning by a congregation, and can be sung a cappella in unison or in SATB format, or with keyboard doubling of the choral parts, making it very flexible and appropriate for the season of Lent.

The hymn tune itself may prove useful in the future for use with new texts, perhaps for other seasons, which is why I have given the tune its own title, LIGHT IN DARKNESS.
