About You Are with Us Always:

You Are with Us Always (2020) was composed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, as I was looking for words of assurance to set to music during this time.  In looking ahead to the time of the Church Year between the celebrations of Ascension and Pentecost, Jesus's promise (at his Ascension) of "I will be with you always," struck me as rather pertinent to our time and place.  This piece takes that promise as its inspiration, as we sing to God in gratitude for remaining with us.  The verses draw upon the various works that God has done for us through Jesus.  This piece would work well at any time during the Easter season, or even during Ordinary Time.  The verses are in unison with a four-part choral Refrain that could also be sung in unison.  An optional descant is also included in the Refrain.

Below are two recorded versions of this piece.  The first is a home recording done by me at the piano.  The second is a MIDI rendering to give a sense of the choral parts.  As always, bear in mind that you will not hear any of the lyric text in the MIDI, as the choral samples cannot interpret text.  The sampled choir only "sings" an "ahh" syllable.
